Kamani Charming Disaster's Our Lady of Radium is a truly fantastic album. The songs are all musically fantastic, and that they are all about the very notable scientist Marie Curie works far better than I ever would have imagined. All around just a very strong album. Favorite track: A Glow About Her.

profbellows69 Bad Luck Hard Rock is my favorite song on a wonderful album. But it is hard picking a favorite song. Their entire catalogue is well worth picking up. You should also watch their live streams. Go to shows. Buy merch.

You can trust my judgement, I am a turtle and know about these things.

Our lady of Radium Light up the dark Beneath the gently swaying pines Inside a deep dark hole If you dare to take what’s mine I will eat your soul Fit this mountain in your spoon Feel the hot embrace All the fairy tales are true It will turn your bones to the finest lace Bad luck Hard rock No matter how you slice it Or break it apart Live once Die twice Find a little magic But it won’t play nice Take your shovel and your pick No need to ask why Got another grave to dig Under a silver moon and a cobalt sky Bad luck Hard rock No matter how you slice it Or break it apart Live once Die twice Find a little magic But it won’t play nice It’s a miracle It’s a miracle With this treasure comes a curse Folded in the ore You can say it could be worse I’ll give you more than what you bargained for Bad luck Hard rock No matter how you slice it Or break it apart Live once Die twice Send you up my daughter But she won’t play nice Send you up my daughter But she won’t play nice

It must be a beautiful thing A thing that I dare not conceive To be hypnotized by our dreams We could work side by side we would have all we need Ride our bicycles down to the sea Sun and the sand and the breeze We could spread out a blanket and read Together consider the great mysteries Let us explore the forces of nature Making a light in the dark Stay with me for the rest of our days dear Nothing will tear us apart Come with me across the way Finally our very own space Where we’ll while the hours away And walk home to eat at the end of the day I catch a brief glimpse of your face As you carefully measure and weigh Your beauty as you concentrate Reminds me that this is our natural state Let us explore the forces of nature Making a light in the dark Stay with me for the rest of our days dear Nothing will tear us apart We visit the lab in the night You slip your hand into mine We're bathed in a fairy blue light We’ve opened a door that no others could find A theory is just a design A scribble of chalk in our minds But now we have brought it to life A shining bright future for all humankind Let us explore the forces of nature (Eat drink sleep be idle love and touch) Making a light in the dark (The sweetest things of life but not succumb) Stay with me for the rest of our days dear (Eat drink sleep be idle love and touch) Nothing will tear us apart (The sweetest things of life but not succumb) Let us explore the forces of nature Making a light in the dark Stay with me for the rest of our days dear (Eat drink sleep be idle love and touch) Nothing will tear us apart

Elemental 02:57
Neither daily life nor my fatigue Exists here in this moment Purity, transparence I am floating in the ocean Grand and calm and deep It is a refuge against evil I concentrate my soul Till I dissolve in it completely I fix my eye on one point To begin my meditation The feeling of precision In my deft manipulation I can hear my own heart beating As I hold my breath suspended In the stillness of my spirit There is nothing but the question These days Following a vision Of grace Leads me to the source Sustains Through doubt and indecision Creates An elemental force These days Here in this moment Of grace I am floating in the ocean Sustains A refuge against evil Creates I dissolve in it completely I fix my eye on one point to begin Following a vision The feeling of precision Leads me to the source I can hear my own heart beating Through doubt and indecision In the stillness of my spirit An elemental force

Silvery white in color Blackening in the air The metal rusts as soon as it’s forged A powder as unremarkable As commonplace table salt but throw it over your shoulder and it’s transformed Is it the burning bush of Moses How the fires don’t go out Or that old perpetual motion That we’ve dreamed so long about And the glowing tubes of glass Look like enchanted fairy lights Suspended in the darkness They are gleaming in the night What have we done (We’ve set in motion) We’re flying too (A chain reaction) Close to the sun (Natural progression) Out of control (The power of the sun) Maybe it was irresponsible The genie is out of the bottle With a fever to boil its own weight in ice It’s the alpha and omega And gamma and beta Passes through matter with X-ray eyes It was a god in ancient Egypt When the pyramids did rise By the light of that eternal Burning disc up in the sky Then the chariot descended To the darkness underground The golden horse-drawn carriage Was too heavy to slow down What have we done (We’ve set in motion) We’re flying too (A chain reaction) Close to the sun (Natural progression) Out of control (The power of the sun) There’s no mistaking Alchemical transmutation Continual cycle of death and rebirth Chemistry of the invisible Hidden in mineral Scattered like glittering stars in the earth You’re chasing down a vision Though the nights are dark and long You can hear it calling In the Geiger counter’s song And the crucible is glowing As it burns away your fears The great work that you undertake Lasts sixteen hundred years What have we done (We’ve set in motion) (Bad luck) We’re flying too (A chain reaction) (Hard rock) Close to the sun (Natural progression) No matter how you slice it Out of control (The power of the sun) (Or break it apart) What have we done (We’ve set in motion) (Live once) We’re flying too (A chain reaction) (Die twice) Close to the sun (Natural progression) (Find a little magic) Out of control (The power of the sun) (But it won’t play nice) Bad luck Hard rock No matter how you slice it Or break it apart Live once Die twice Find a little magic But it won’t play nice

I’ll repeat your name again and always: Pierre, Pierre, Pierre, my Pierre You are gone and I am left with Desolation and despair Tender friend with whom I planned to spend The rest of the years of my life Now I’ll never hold your artistic hands Never gaze in your luminous eyes My dear Pierre, the work that we shared Our purpose, our vision, our home Never thought I’d have to go on without you How can I continue alone? Eat drink sleep be Idle love and touch The sweetest things Of life but not succumb Ma petite cherie, you can still find me In the trees and the fields and the sky Cast your sad eyes to the lily pond My reflection is there by your side I am all around you in the flowering broom And the calls of the crickets and frogs All are carried away by the wind That caresses, then it is gone Eat drink sleep be Idle love and touch The sweetest things Of life but not succumb Let us explore the forces of nature Making a light in the dark Now it's only me in our laboratory In the silence of this half life Awake until late while you sleep your last sleep What are you dreaming this time? Make life a dream, and make the dream real And share with the world what it is We are gathering shells with a hole in our pocket We cannot hold onto such bliss Eat drink sleep be Idle love and touch The sweetest things Of life but not succumb Stay with me for the rest of our days dear Nothing will tear us apart Eat drink sleep be Idle love and touch The sweetest things Of life but not succumb

You all can keep your convent That life don’t suit me well This is my finest moment Here’s another story you can tell When I was just a baby An orphan with no home The spirits came to save me Taught me how to manage on my own How many arms and legs has she? Keep a close eye on my hands and feet You might feel a little pinch or two Is it just us in the darkened room This ain’t no sideshow magic There’s nothing up my sleeve Nobody can explain it People want so badly to believe Why don’t we turn the tables raised up by spirit hands Make an investigation Find out what you think you’ll understand Study but nobody solves the mystery Of this little girl from Napoli Books and diplomas will do you no good Class is getting started in the darkened room Hear me moan and hear me wail Swallow tongue and lizard tail From my head a cold wind blows Hear me wail and hear me moan Eat drink sleep be Idle love and touch The sweetest things Of life but not succumb In this modern age of wonders Things go bump in the night Brand new atomic forces Hold on tightly when we dim the lights Let’s gather for the séance There’s nothing to conceal You can apply your science Do you think that you can prove what’s real Call me a faker call me a cheat I crackle with electricity Your wildest theories could be true Come and find out in the darkened room You all can keep your convent That life don’t suit me well This is my finest moment Here’s another story you can tell

Radium Girls 03:43
Moisten the brush with the tip of your tongue A delicate touch for the lines that you're painting The second hand sweeps round the face of the clock You number the hours and they glow in the dark It's a miracle All those factory girls So invisible Gonna light up the world Dress in your best like you're going to church They show you your desk with the rest of the workers Radium girls make a generous wage Breaking the dawn of the nuclear age It's a miracle All those factory girls So invisible Gonna light up the world For any disease we can give you the cure Your bones turn to dust in the light of the future The darker the night the more brilliant it shines Eternal flame burns for half of all time It's a miracle Moisten the brush with the tip of your tongue A delicate touch for the lines that you're painting The second hand sweeps round the face of the clock You number the hours and they glow in the dark

Did you hear about the scandal Did you read the paper She can’t be a natural woman His poor wife and children His wife tried to save her honor Published their love letters Stolen right from the apartment By the hired detective Her friends thought she would mourn forever Then one night she came to dinner With a flower at her waistline and a glow about her Everyone knew he was unhappy His wife had a violent temper Beat him with a wooden chair leg what a holy terror These days Duels over the slander Fought with swords and pistols Didn't have a leg to stand on It was clear as crystal Did they think no one would notice They had no discretion It was right under our noses Never any question Her friends thought she would mourn forever Then one night she came to dinner With a flower at her waistline and a glow about her Everyone knew he was unhappy His wife had a violent temper Beat him with a wooden chair leg what a holy terror These days Come walk away with me from all this tawdry chatter I’ll fight them all for you we are the only two that matter If we could only stay here in our little sanctuary I’ll hold you in my arms but I can’t keep this world at bay I have done nothing that should cause my work to be diminished I found a love when I thought love was gone and life was finished Dragged through the mud my name my private face my reputation I will not run I choose to risk my life and my position These days Duels over the slander Fought with swords and pistols Didn't have a leg to stand on It was clear as crystal Did they think no one would notice They had no discretion it was right under our noses Never any question Did you hear about the scandal Did you read the paper She can’t be a natural woman His poor wife and children His wife tried to save her honor Published their love letters Stolen right from the apartment By the hired detective Come walk away with me From all this tawdry chatter I’ll fight them all for you We are the only two that matter I have done nothing that should Cause my work to be diminished I found a love when I thought Love was gone and life was finished Dragged through the mud (If we could only stay here) My name my private face my reputation (In our little sanctuary) I will not run (I’ll hold you in my arms) I choose to risk my life and my position (But I can’t keep this world at bay) These days Her friends thought she would mourn forever Then one night she came to dinner With a flower at her waistline and a glow about her

Promethean sister From under from the earth You send up your gifts Unloosed from the mouth Of a half-buried jar Mysterious ills Omens and signals All over the city All over the world Invisible lightning A furious wind A rain of dead birds Our Lady of Radium Light up the dark Save us from secrets You have unlocked Our Lady of Radium Light up the dark Did you have an itch Did you make a wish Did you lift the lid Were you curious Are you just like us Do you know what you did Only thing to do Is to hope for the best And expect the worst So we say a prayer Though our hands may crack Like the yellowcake earth Our Lady of Radium Light up the dark Save us from secrets You have unlocked Our Lady of Radium Light up the dark I fix my eye on one point To begin my meditation The feeling of precision In my deft manipulation I can hear my own heart beating As I hold my breath suspended In the stillness of my spirit There is nothing but the question Our Lady of Radium Light up the dark Save us from secrets You have unlocked Our Lady of Radium Light up the dark A new dawn breaks But we can’t wake up From a bad dream We cannot escape From a garden of roses That make no seeds Now we’ve picked the fruit It’s too late to ask Is it better to know In a square wood box That is lined with lead A teaspoon of hope Our Lady of Radium Light up the dark Save us from secrets You have unlocked Our Lady of Radium Light up the dark Save us from secrets You have unlocked Our Lady of Radium Light up the dark

about

Our Lady of Radium was inspired by the life and discoveries of pioneering scientist Marie Curie. Nine songs explore moments from Curie’s life and research: the ancient folklore of the mountains where radioactive ores were mined; the romance of equals between Marie and Pierre; the famous spirit medium whose séances they attended; Marie’s grief following Pierre’s tragic death; the physical characteristics of radium itself; and the personal scandal that almost destroyed her. The album also depicts the tragedy of the “Radium Girls,” who were poisoned in the course of their employment, painting watch dials with radium-based paint. In addition, Our Lady of Radium deals with duels, alchemy, dwarves, romance, Egyptian mythology, radioactive decay chains, and other secret histories.
